The 112th Annual Meeting of the Association of Physicians of Great Britain & Ireland will be held on

Thursday, 12 and Friday, 13 April 2018 at The University of Manchester

REGISTRATION NOW!

Dear Members,

Three weeks to go! I would like to give you a quick update on the social programme for the Annual Meeting.
I am delighted that Andy Burnham, ex-Secretary of State for Health and now Mayor of Greater Manchester, has taken up my offer to open proceedings and welcome you all to the city on the Thursday, immediately before the Osler Lecture from Professor Sir Doug Turnbull.
I am also very grateful to Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester, who has accepted my offer to meet us all at the Reception in the Manchester Museum. It is a good number of years since the Annual Meeting last visited Manchester. Lots has changed. Much of the campus is barely recognisable from years gone by with many new buildings and initiatives. Dame Nancy will update us.
Finally, we have Sir Howard Bernstein welcoming us into the evening with a pre-dinner address. Rather like Dame Nancy, for many people Sir Howard 'is Manchester', having spent nearly twenty years as Chief Executive of Manchester City Council. His tenure oversaw the city's regeneration and marked economic growth. Since stepping down, Sir Howard is busier than ever. He is now Honorary Professor of Politics at the University of Manchester and has been a key figure in Manchester's Health and Life Sciences Industrial Strategy.
The social programme is now rolled into registration for the meeting. Alongside cutting-edge lectures and exciting speakers for the Joint Symposium with the Academy of Medical Sciences, it will make for a great two days. If you haven't yet registered, please do so via our website. See you in Manchester.
